An Island Forgotten In Time

Home to an indigenous population of 750,000, Sumba has been largely left to its own devices and developed with little outside influence throughout much of recorded history, giving it a unique culture that is still thriving today

The island is comprised mostly of limestone earth and evidence can be found even at the highest and most isolated mountain peaks of limestone coral that was once submerged

Many villages founded on hill tops are surrounded by ancient coral limestone rocks creating natural defenses for the inhabitants
